Why Wellness Coaching?

I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit tired of well-intentioned social media posts and sites telling me, and listing for me, all the ways my life can be better and what I can to do make it so.  You know you’ve seen them – they’re called “listicles” (yes, they’ve named them!), articles that are essentially just lists.  They are virtually unavoidable these days…

10 days to better relationships

Relax with these 7 strategies

29 Self-care ideas

99 things to do this weekend to simplify your life

You get the idea.  These are nice, uplifting reads, often inspiring a tiny bit of motivation.  These posts all offer wonderful sounding strategies, steps to take, ideas, techniques, but what’s the problem here?

I notice a few things…

First, if your Facebook feed is anything like mine (i.e., I follow more pages than people), then you’re inundated with posts telling you that something is wrong with your life (doesn’t that feel great?).

Second, receiving these messages each time I’m skimming my feed, feels a bit overwhelming – SO much to do!  When am I going to just set everything else aside and start working on improving my SELF?  How do I prioritize all these issues? Which area should I work on first?

Third, even if I do decide to, say, learn 7 strategies to relax, how am I going to put them into practice? How do I know if I’m doing it right? When will I know that I’ve achieved success – what is success when it comes to relaxing?

That little bit of motivation that it stirred within you… it’s kinda like a 4th of July sparkler, isn’t it?  Really sparkly and pretty, but it dies out rather quickly.

See?  Are you feeling the overwhelm right now?

I get it, we all have room for improvement.  We all have some area we feel we need to work on.  And that’s okay.  I’m all for self-improvement and simplifying our lives, lessening the effects of stress, learning to have more fun and enjoy leisure time, learning strategies to develop deeper relationships, whatever it is that you feel will IMPROVE YOUR WELL-BEING.  That’s what InnerVision TLC is all about.

So, my question is – why wellness coaching?  How is coaching different from an article  you can simply read that tells you how to improve your life (just by the virtue of reading it)?

  • Coaching puts YOU in charge – nobody is telling you how to live your life.
  • Coaching helps you to identify your strengths (not your weaknesses).
  • Coaching creates an environment that promotes a judgment-free zone – a space where you are free to create a vision for your life – a life rich with well-being.
  • Coaching helps you develop intrinsic motivation (not motivation that comes from a stranger).
  • Coaching guides you to set SMART goals – measurable, attainable, and realistic experiments you create that will move you closer to living your wellness vision.
  • Coaching builds determination and a deep belief in your ability to achieve your goals.
  • Coaching provides accountability (although your coach will never chastise you for lack of progress – it’s all a learning process).
  • Coaching can be whatever you need it to be in order to make consistent behavior changes which lead to greater well-being and quality of life.

Let the lists go…  YOU decide what you want to work on and when…  Contact me and we can begin to create a powerful vision of wellness for YOUR life ~ see how good it can be!
